Join us for a 5 days sea kayaking adventure off the coast of Maine (July 15-19, 2024) as we paddle from island to island to experientially learn the basics of expedition planning, nautical navigation, and paddling techniques. The course will emphasize primitive skills, including fire-making, tidal fishing, coastal foraging, backcountry cooking, and nature awareness. There will also be ample opportunities for wildlife viewing, such as seals, porpoises, bald eagles, and more.
Participants will camp for four consecutive nights, including one night at the Foxwalk property in Blue Hill, ME, and three nights on various islands in the Mt. Dessert Narrows. The course price includes all meals, transportation to and from Bangor Airport, kayaking equipment, and camping gear (tents, sleeping pads, sleeping bags, cookware, dry bags, etc.).
Expedition leaders Mike DiMauro of Foxwalk Adventures and Mike Douglas of the Maine Primitive Skills School have worked together for over a decade, sharing their passions for nature connection and fieldcraft skills. They are excited to combine their experience and talents once again to provide six individuals with an opportunity of a lifetime.
Start: Monday, July 15, 12:00 pm at Foxwalk Adventures, 227 Jay Carter Road, Blue Hill, ME. (Participants from the Augusta area can meet at MPSS at 9:00 am and ride-shared to Blue Hill.)
End: Friday, July 19, 12:00 pm at Foxwalk Adventures. Limit: 6 persons, 18 years and older.
Cost: $1250 per person. Including meals, gear, and accommodations.
Note: The course requires an intermediate fitness level, as participants may paddle up to 5 hours in a single day. The itinerary and route are subject to change based on weather and ocean conditions.
